Crosfield & Fuji Celsis Drum Scanner Upgrades

Your questions answered on update prospects for these ever popular scanners.

1) Can Fujifilm Colourkit software drive my Celsis scanner directly?
This would be a fantastic combination, but unfortunately the answer is No! FFEI are not willing to produce a special version of
ColourKit for a relatively few sales to existing Celsis users. You can however scan RGB images on a Celsis scanner which has had a professional special RGB calibration, and then had the correct setup files created, and then custom ICC Profiles generated. You then convert these images from RGB to CMYK in ColourKit Image Processor.  We are the experts in this, having done this for many clients.  This software has the benefit of having very similar U.S.M. to Celsis, and of having very powerful colour correction controls. Indeed more powerful than in Celsis software itself. You can also use Photoshop for RGB to CMYK conversions of course. Click for details of our Celsis Colour Management Service.

2) Can Celsis (or MagnaLink 600) software work in Mac OS X or Classic?
Unfortunately the answer is also No!  Apparently the problem is with support for SCSI in  Mac OS X. This means that you won't be able to run your Celsis from a G5 or Intel
Mac, as they only boot in OS X. Fujifilm have stated that they will not be producing any further upgrades to Celsis. Don't be too worried, however, as the software runs very well on a Mac G4 in MacOs 9.22. This is a very stable system. Admittedly not as good as OS X, but still very good. If you are not presently running with this combination, then you should seriously consider it. If you have a very old Mac it may have a NuBus SCSI card. If you upgrade to a G4, you may need to obtain a PCI Adaptec SCSI card with special Celsis firmware. Your scanner engineering service provider can do this.

If you have an older Celsis scanner, the software will be on floppy disks. Remember those?  We have some not very fond memories of "bad" floppies. The remedy is to back up your software!  Also back up your Setup files!  Back up your Preference files as well (there are many of these; some Celsis Prefs are titled "MagnaLink"). Do this before upgrading!  You have done this already?

3) What is the latest version of Celsis software?
The latest version for CASC scanners only is v4.02. If you have a CASC scanner with older software you should consider upgrading to this. If you have a 6250 without CASC, you should consider an upgrade. Consult your Fujifilm service provider, who may be able to upgrade your scanner for a reasonable price.

4) Can we upgrade a Magnascan to Celsis?
You may be able to do this if the scanner is in good condition. It may be more economic to purchase a good used Celsis scanner however, try

5) Can you help us with upgrades?
Yes, we can if you are in the U.K.
